The Moyle Interconnector, owned by Mutual Energy, links the electricity grids of Northern Ireland and Scotland through submarine cables running between converter stations at Ballycronan More in Islandmagee, County Antrim and Auchencrosh in Ayrshire.
Moyle Interconnector has as dual monopole configuration, with a capacity of 500MW, and uses LCC converter technology supplied and commissioned by Siemens.
The existing control and protection system of the Moyle Interconnector is being upgraded to enhance the control functionality, to maintain reliability and to meet the future energy market demand across Northern Ireland and Scotland.
The National HVDC Centre is hosting the replica control and protection cubicles on behalf of Mutual Energy; enabling us to support the upgrade and ongoing operation of the Moyle Interconnector.
