INCENTIVE – Innovative Control and Energy Storage for Ancillary Services in Offshore Wind

SSEN- Transmission with support from partners have completed the discovery and alpha phases of a Strategic Innovation Funded project – INCENTIVE.  The beta phase which is the third and final phase is currently underway.  The National HVDC Centre is leading the technology focussed Work Package within the project.

INCENTIVE is a project supported by Ofgem, UKRI and Innovate UK .  This project aims to de-risk the integration of increasing offshore wind capacity onto the GB network, by ensuring system stability is maintained as traditional synchronous generators are displaced from the system. The goal is to enable offshore wind farms to play a role in stabilising the GB network through the use of innovative technologies that provide voltage, current and frequency control services to the grid. These are typically referred to as grid forming or grid stabilizing technologies.
